The most desirable NA E90 3 Series’ are definitely the straight-six-cylinder variants, starting with the 2005-2007 323i. It’s mated to a downtuned N43 that makes just 121 horsepower and 120 pound-feet of torque. It’s also worth mentioning that in 2007, BMW unveiled the newest entry-level E90 in the form of the 316i. To finish off the four-liter E90s, BMW introduced the 320si between 20, featuring a new N45 2.0-liter with an impressive output of 170 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, but the model became obsolete once the regular 320i received more power in 2007. Next up is the E90 320i, 2005–2006 versions sport the same N46 from the 318i, but tuned for more power at 148 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, while 2007 versions and beyond make use of the enhanced N43 with 168 horsepower and 155 pound-feet. BMW swapped the N46 for an upgraded N43 of the same size in 2007, increasing the 318i’s maximum output to 141 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque. The 318i is the E90s official entry-level model, equipped with a 2.0-liter inline-four N46 that delivers 127 horsepower along with 130 pound-feet of torque. Upon initial release in 2005, the E90 3 Series was exclusively available with 5 different naturally-aspirated engine options, with the first turbocharged variant appearing exactly one year later.
